Marge Currie Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and love we announce the passing of Marjory Janice Currie on Tuesday December 09th at the Flin Flon General Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Marge loved her family fiercely.  She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Bob Currie. Marge and Bob were married in Preeceville, SK and together they raised four children Dawn Currie (Allan MacKinnon), Kevin Currie (Shelly), Shannon Balfour (Andrew), Brenda Currie; her grandchildren Kailyn Balfour (Owen), Kyla Adams (Joel) and Devin Balfour. She used to say “if I’d known my kids would have turned out so great, I would have had more”! Her life was defined by love, laughter and deep devotion to family.

Marge will be remembered by her sister-in-law Janice Currie, and brother-in-law Ray and Heather Currie. She will also remain in the hearts of cousins Tommy and Shirley, Cindy and Rodney who she loved seeing during their visits to Flin Flon.  She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins who will all remember her with love and for her tremendous zest for life.

She was predeceased by her parents Joe and Anne Babchishin, and her in-laws Hugh and Jessie Currie, brother-in-law Ernie Currie.

Marge was born in Canora, SK on November 12th, 1942 and grew up in Preeceville, SK.  Marge moved to Winnipeg for business school, where she met her husband Bob.  They moved to Thompson, MB in 1962, where they lived for first twenty-five years of marriage.  They were members of the Thompson Snowmobile Club, camped at Paint Lake and eventually built their family cabin at Setting Lake.  In 1986, they moved to Flin Flon, MB

Marge had a young at heart quality…she simply loved life!  She will be remembered for her zest of life!  She was someone everyone loved – the kind of person whose presence made any room brighter.  Marge was known for her carefree humour and ability to make everyone laugh.  Her energy was contagious and her ability to find joy in everyday moments was a gift. Mom loved a good party, and was sure never to miss one.  She was the lady in Walmart at Christmas pressing all the music buttons on toys, dancing in the aisles to the Christmas tunes.  She loved being married to an Irishman, and donned the Irish swag every St. Patrick’s Day!  She loved clothes, especially tight pants and short skirts, “’’cause I’m not dressing like no ole lady!”  She loved the trips her and dad took to N. Ireland and the beaches in Mexico!  She loved being called the “perogy and cabbage roll lady”, and took great pride in knowing that families celebrated various holiday seasons with her perogy’s and cabbage rolls on the dinner table.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.  Though words cannot capture the depth of her impact, she will always be remembered for her kindness, her humour, and the way she made everyone feel valued and loved.  We are all better for having her in our lives.  She will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her and her spirit will continue to guide and comfort her family and friends.
