Linda Marie Lofendale was born in Flin Flon in 1942 to parents Rene and Harry Lofendale.
Growing up in Flin Flon was a wonderful, carefree experience. In the summer, it was swimming at Phantom Lake and baseball in the streets. In winter, it was playing hockey and sliding down the hill to watch the Bombers. In the fifties, her family moved to Creighton. She worked at the Dutch Mill as a carhop, wearing a little Dutch outfit and tulip cap.
She started school at Main School, was part of the first class in Hudson, and graduated from Hapnot. In Winnipeg, she attended Success Commercial College and graduated with Honors.
Returning to Flin Flon, Linda started at HBM&S and worked for 24 and a half years as secretary to the Chief Geologist. In 1969, she and Gerry were married. When daughter Marla was born, she left the company to stay home.
Linda was very active in the community. She was part of the original group that formed Helping Hands at Ruth Betts School. Also, she was a helper in Brownies and Guides, Band Parents, and other school groups. At the United Church, she volunteered for many years where needed, most recently on the M&P committee.
Many remember Linda best as a pillar of the Arts in Flin Flon. She started as a "Mom behind the scenes" for pantomimes and the Ham Sandwich theater group. Since then, she served 27 years with the Arts Council, 25 years on Performing Arts, 7 with Manitoba Film and Music, and was part of Manitoba Arts Network. In addition, she was costume director for Ham Sandwich and costume co-director for the Community Choir.
Linda was predeceased by husband Gerald Allen and infants Jeffrey James Allen and Stacey Marie Allen. She is survived by brother Bob Lofendale, brother and sister-in-law Wayne & Joy Lofendale, and daughter and son-in-law Marla & Michael Sullivan.
