Katherina Blackmon

With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we announce the passing of our kind and loving Mother, Katherina Elaine Blackmon (nee McKay), 67, of Flin Flon, Manitoba. Mom passed away on January 26, 2023, at the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth in Stratford, ON from ALS surrounded by her family.

We were fortunate enough to have a stay-at-home Mom for much of our upbringing. Once we were a little older and more responsible Mom did work as a cook at the Victoria Inn/Kelsey Hotel and at a few different fly-in mining camps, in her later years Mom worked in retail and always took great pride in her work and doing a job well.

Mom was a kind soul and thoughtful soul who played an important role in many of her brother's upbringing. You could usually find one of her brothers living with our family during their younger adult years. Mom enjoyed fishing, camping, shopping and home decorating. She always had a cup of coffee or tea ready and an ear to listen if you happened to stop by for a visit unannounced. She was an amazing baker and cook, with a special touch to make even the most mundane meal taste wonderful. She was creative and enjoyed knitting clothing for her grandchildren. Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed watching foreign BBC TV shows. 

Mom was born on August 3rd, 1955, to Corry (Koosje) and Roderick McKay in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and was the sixth of eleven children. Mom is predeceased by her Mother Corry (Koosje), Father Roderick, Brothers Timothy and Lawrence "Bimbo". She is survived by her siblings Gertrude (Joe), Walter, Rodney, Garry "Bubba", Judy, Rene, Terry "Sawchuk" and Keith (Judith); her children Wendy, Jody (Jason), Daniel and Brady (Jayde); grandchildren Lochlain, Ruarke, Sawyer and Addison; as well as countless nieces and nephews. 

Elaine's family will be coordinating A Celebration of Life to be held in Flin Flon, Manitoba, during the summer of 2023, with more details to follow. Mom, we hate that you are gone, but we are happy that you are home and no longer suffering. We will always love and miss you. Until we meet again.
