Glen Northcott Obituary

Wilfred GLEN Northcott, age 67, of The Pas, Manitoba passed away on February 1, 2023. Glen was born in The Pas on November 26,1955 to Joyce & Brian Northcott, grandson of Wilfred & Bette Northcott, and Harry & Florence Landels.  His death was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.

Glen’s greatest joy was his family.  He loved spending time with his girls teaching them how to operate anything parked in the yard, camping, sailing, fishing, and many other things - and of course farming.  Glen encouraged his girls to try anything, “Don’t be afraid to do any job, cause you won’t know what you like until you do it.”

Whether working at CN, driving logging trucks, or spending time in the Bertram Building at the mill, Glen made many friends over the years.  It wasn’t unusual for a vehicle to pull into the yard, sometimes for advice, sometimes for a repair, or sometimes just to have a visit over a beer.

Glen was always involved with farming, at first helping his parents, then farming his own land while working full-time, then ‘retiring’ to be a full-time farmer.  In 2007 Glen and Violet purchased the Landels homestead, bringing it back into the family after 25+ years.  Glen and Violet built their current home with the help of family and friends, and it quickly became a place for everyone to gather.

Auction sales were always on Glen’s radar.  Never one to turn down a road trip, he was happy to get in the truck and go.  Finding a different route home, to see some different country on the way, was an adventure he was willing to take - even at 10km an hour walking home equipment to the farm.

Glen’s ingenuity and problem solving skills were one of his greatest assets.  He was a lifelong learner and never backed away from an issue, whether it was doing a ‘farm fix’ to get something running, or using a backhoe to launch a boat in the river.  When indoors you could find Glen in his LazyBoy reading a pocket book, with a stack of books waiting to be read beside him.

Glen is lovingly remembered by his life partner, Violet Anderson, his daughters Geri (Orv) Rideout, Breann and Kellie, and his grandchildren Ebberley, Reece, and Jett; his brothers Doug (Linda) and Jamie (Pam), his sisters Cheryl(Dan) and Lyn (Sean), his many nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and their extended families.

Glen’s family and friends will miss him more than words can say.

There will be a celebration of Glen’s life held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Carrot Valley Hall.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Glen Northcott can be made to Carrot Valley Community Centre.
