I know that Boomer would not like a long-winded speech about him, and me getting all teary eyed giving it, so I will keep this short.
I’ve known Brent for about 40years and we became friends that very day. He and Audrey and I were the “three amigos” for many years. Fishing, hunting chickens, camping or just sitting around having some drinks, were the normal. Usually started in the Kelsey bar after work and often ended up at a party somewhere after closing time.
He and I even did the “blood brother” ritual of cutting our hands during a drunken moment after Audrey had gone to bed.
We became family to him and him to us. Most of Boomer’s friends became his “family” after making a lasting friendship with him. Family was probably one of the most important things to him, as his kin can attest to. Boomer put close friends in that same category and most of his friends were close and dear to him. He stayed connected to his family/friends and was always reachable if he were needed. He was my best man at my marriage to Audrey and Godfather to our daughter Kendra, who considered him her uncle Boomer. His kids always called us uncle and auntie, and still do.
After over half of my lifetime knowing him and having him around it is going to take a long time to adjust to life without him. It saddens me that he had just begun his retired dream and was holidaying out to his first official day of retirement on July 1st. He had purchased a house in Reston where he and Linda planned to live together and travel to various bike rallies from a more centralized location. Audrey and I joked about her bridesmaid moving there about a year ago and now that Boomer had made the move our whole wedding party was living there. Made us think maybe we should make the move too, but grandchildren changed that idea in a hurry.
I would like everyone to stand and raise a glass in a tribute and toast. Boomer/Brent I know that you will Ride In Paradise. R.I.P. my brother and dear friend.
