Obituary

Norman Silvester Rudd, age 91 years, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Norm was born in Morden and grew up on a farm near Darlingford, MB. He was educated at Lorne School, a rural school about one mile from his family home. As a young married man, Norm moved to Flin Flon, where he worked at Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting as a linesman, then a substation assistant operator and later as an operator. Norm also owned and operated a grocery store in Channing. After many years, Norm left HBM&S to build homes in the Flin Flon area, and as a self-taught carpenter, built six houses. He then returned to HBM&S to work as a handyman until his retirement in 1992. While living in Flin Flon, Norm was a volunteer firefighter for 25 plus years, as well as a Lions and Fish & Game member. After retirement, Norm and Gail moved to Manitou and later to Brandon for his remaining years; they also wintered in Weslaco, Texas for many years. Norm was an avid hunter, fisherman, curler, and golfer. He enjoyed camping and socializing. Known by many as “Stormin Normin!”, he will be greatly missed by all his family. Norm is survived by his loving wife Gail, three sons and two stepdaughters, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a sister and two brothers. The Celebration of Norm’s Life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Norm may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements with Memories Chapel, Brandon 1-855-727-0330.

Gail and family, we are all so sad to hear of Uncle Norm’s passing. We always enjoyed having him just down the street from us when he was in Manitou. He was always stopping by with things for the kids whether it be extra golf balls or cherry tomatoes from his amazing garden. He will be missed by many. Jeff, Melissa, Zoey, Mya, and Bree

Gail and family. Our condolences to everyone on your loss. Norm was a great family friend, and such a good friend to my Mom and Dad. May your memories guide you through the sad times. Janice (Gourlay) and Bryan Smith
