It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mavis Irene Lau on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Mavis was born to Doris (Setter) and Lawrence Hamilton on September 1, 1933 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Her family relocated to Flin Flon when Mavis was six and she resided there until her passing.
Mavis was the only daughter and eldest of six children. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, brother Harley and son-in-law Bryon deVries. She leaves behind her brothers who she adored, Daniel (Donalda), Patrick (Judy), Allan (Jan), Joe (Diane) and sister-in-law Fran.
Mavis leaves behind her three children Wendy Provins (Dave Turton), Diane Lau and Gordon Lau (Lois Fisher). Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren Nicole Provins (Justin Ashurst), Jill Provins, Jacquie Lipowy (Ryan), Ashley Brown (Noel), Bayard deVries (Paula) Drake Lau (Erin Kowsowan) and Kayla Lau (Josh Finger).
It gave her utmost pleasure to look at photos of the great grandchildren Nathan and Carter Ashurst, Thomas and Nolan Gearry, James and Lainie Lipowy, Hudson, Ellis and Oliver Brown, and Grover deVries.
Mavis was a remarkable woman who was as skilled with a sewing machine, knitting needles and cross stitch as she was with power tools. Many friends and family are proud to have her cross stitch pieces of art work on display in their homes. She was also a remarkable curler and golfer. She was an exceptional bridge player which she continued to excel at even into the last few years.
Mavis always had a welcoming smile and is well known for working at Sears in Flin Flon until retirement. Mavis and Bob were fortunate to have retired early and took the opportunity to explore various parts of the world with friends and family.
Although Mavis will be greatly missed we are comforted knowing that she and Bob are together again planning new adventures.
